Giving Back
May 2018: growth[period] is proud to support the Seattle Aquarium. The Seattle Aquarium operates as a nonprofit 501c3 and is the ninth-largest aquarium in the U.S. by attendance. The aquarium’s mission is “Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment” which they strive towards through their exhibits, events, conservation efforts, educational programs, research activities, and more.
An example of their conservation efforts includes: sea turtle rehabilitation, sea star wasting disease (SSWD), giant octopus protection, ratfish rearing, and coral propagation.
May 2018: growth[period] is proud to support the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP). Led by chef, author, and, restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, C-CAP is a national non-profit that educates and guides underserved high school students toward a bright future. C-CAP prepares students for the workplace through chef mentoring, field trips, job shadows, work experience and job skills, and college and career advising.
Founded by culinary educator and cookbook author Richard Grausman, C-CAP impacts over 17,500 students a year and has also awarded over $53 million in scholarships since its inception.
April 2018: growth[period] is proud to support PurpleStride Washington DC 2018, the walk to end pancreatic cancer, for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) is dedicated to fighting the world’s toughest cancer. Pancreatic cancer kills more Americans than breast cancer and has a five-year survival rate of just 9 percent. The disease is the third leading cause of cancer-related death, and it is projected to become the second around 2020.
Since the first walk in 2008, PurpleStride has been the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s most powerful vehicle for fundraising and awareness. Each year, in more than 50 PurpleStride events across the country, survivors, families, researchers, caregivers and others touched by pancreatic cancer come together to rewrite the future of this deadly disease.
April 2018: growth[period] is proud to support the Histiocytosis Association for their 9th annual Histio Hike Shenandoah. The Histio Hike is held on April 27 and 28th, with the goal of providing histio families and their loved ones with a place to meet and share their experiences, while also raising much-needed funds and raising awareness.
The Histiocytosis Association is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the unique needs of patients and families dealing with the effects of histiocytic disorders while leading the search for a cure.
Histiocytosis is a rare blood disease that is caused by an excess of white blood cells called histiocytes. The histiocytes cluster together and can attack the skin, bones, and organs. The disease can range from limited involvement that spontaneously regresses to progressive multi-organ involvement that can be chronic, debilitating and life-threatening.
April 2018: growth[period] is proud to support Episcopal Academy, a co-educational school founded in 1785 for grades Pre-K through 12 based in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
Episcopal Academy’s mission is to take a robust approach to mind, body, and spirit as a holistically to educating, nurturing, and developing boys and girls.
April 2018: growth[period] is proud to support the J Strong Fund benefitting the family of Jonathan Green. In December 2017, Jonathan Green, a police officer with Montgomery County, had an aortic aneurysm blow.
He is alive, but essentially in a coma. Jonathan’s wife is fighting to get help and benefits from the police force, but in the meantime, has to pay for his nursing home, their home, and raise their 2 young children. All monies raised from the fundraiser will go to help this family in crisis.
March 2018: growth[period] is proud to support the family of Anthony Borges. Anthony is a victim of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018.
During this unspeakable tragedy, Anthony was able to save about 20 other students as he attempted to close and lock the door to a classroom. He was shot multiple times.
March 2018: growth[period] is a proud supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association this month. Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
February 2018: growth[period] is proud to support FilmNorth’s Center for Media Arts this month. FilmNorth’s mission is to empower artists to tell their stories, launch and sustain successful careers, and advance The North as a leader in the national network of independent filmmakers. They achieve their mission by nurturing a vibrant, diverse community of film and media artists; providing education and resources at every stage of their careers; and celebrating their achievements.
FilmNorth was founded in 1987 as Independent Feature Project Minnesota by independent filmmakers to realize their dreams of creating feature-length narrative films in Minnesota without the support of a major studio. Today their commitment to the art and craft of visual storytelling encompasses screenwriting, filmmaking, and photography. FilmNorth empowers beginner to professional level artists through classes, equipment rental, grants, professional networking, and a connection to a bigger audience.
February 2018: growth[period] is proud to support Leadership Greater Washington. Leadership Greater Washington brings together local leaders to make a positive impact in the Washington Metropolitan area. Leadership Greater Washington promotes cooperative work on a regional basis by fostering discussion, sparking problem-solving, and motivating positive change to regional challenges.
Established in 1986, Leadership Greater Washington was constructed by a group of regional leaders and three committed organizations: The Greater Washington Board of Trade, The Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation and The Junior League of Washington.
