February 2014: NSAWW is pleased to announce the hiring of Nicole West as advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, Courtney Banks Spaeth. Mrs. West is a Senior Operating Executive with extensive experience in business management, strategy development, marketing/communications, operations and technology for both mature and early stage companies.

Mrs. West was a Managing Director at Legg Mason in the office of the Chairman and CEO where she was responsible for leveraging the CEO and Executive Committee to effectively manage Legg Mason – a global asset management firm with approximately $680 billion in assets under management with clients and operations in North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

At Capital One from 1999-2008, Mrs. West served as Vice President and Chief of Staff for Global Financial Services as well as Chief Operating Officer for their Federal Savings Bank. The Global Financial Services division encompassed both Capital One’s U.S. and European based diversified consumer and small business lending as well as Corporate Development activities involving acquisitions and strategic transactions. This organization was both an incubator for new businesses and markets as well as a growth accelerator for more mature businesses and went from losing millions annually to delivering over $300 million in earnings by 2007.

Prior to Capital One, Mrs. West was a Director at Freddie Mac, where she headed Strategic Operational Infrastructure for the Securities Trading and Servicing groups. While there, Mrs. West created well managed, efficient, regulatory compliant, and strong performing organizations that delivered over $200 million of operating margin improvement as well as received a patent for her work in building systems and processes to mitigate losses in residential real estate loans.

Before joining Freddie Mac, she practiced business management and strategic infrastructure consulting, working for Perot Systems and Electronic Data Systems. At Perot Systems, as one of the first 50 employees, she helped to build the company in five years from a start up to a profitable $292 million revenue generating management and technology consulting company with more than 3,000 associates.

Mrs. West graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina also winning the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and has taken executive course work in Finance at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and Leadership at the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia. She is active philanthropically in the Global Financial Services Volunteer Corps, the Washington Area Women’s Foundation and Food and Friends.
